For the first time, the Indonesian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG) successfully organized the 1st Gastrointestinal Oncology Meeting titled “Unravelling the Intricacies of Diagnosing Advanced Gastric Cancer: Paving the Way to Effective Strategies for Accurate Diagnosis and Optimal Treatment.” The event was held in a hybrid meeting on October 20, 2024, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Mega Kuningan, Jakarta, and via Zoom.
This meeting brought together participants from various cross-professional fields, including gastroenterohepatologist, hematologist, oncologist, pathologist, and Internist. A total of 90 participants attended onsite, while 365 joined online, making this meeting a pivotal moment for enhancing knowledge and collaboration in the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer.
The first session featured lectures moderated by Hasan Maulahela, MD, PhD, covering three engaging topics:
- “Optimizing Sample Acquisition and Diagnostic Procedures for Accurate Diagnosis of Gastric Cancer” presented by Prof. Ari Fahrial Syam, MD, MMB, PhD, FACP, FACG
- “Revolutionizing Gastric Cancer Diagnosis: Harnessing the Potential of HER2 and PD-L1 Biomarker Testing” presented by Nur Rahadiani, MD, PhD
- “Immunotherapy in HER2- and HER2+ Advanced Gastric Cancer” presented by Andhika Rahman, MD, PhD
The second session included a case discussion moderated by Rabbinu Rangga Pribadi, MD and presented by Husin Thamrin, MD. The topic, “Case Sharing on Advanced Gastric Cancer in Daily Practice,” was explored through insights shared by three panelists:
- Prof. Ari Fahrial Syam, MD, MMB, PhD, FACP, FACG
- Hasan Maulahela, MD, PhD
- Andhika Rahman, MD, PhD
Through this event, ISG aimed to deepen physicians understanding of gastric cancer diagnosis and treatment, particularly in daily clinical practice. Moreover, the discussions were expected to contribute to more effective strategies for early detection of gastric cancer, enabling patients to receive optimal care.
The enthusiastic participation, both onsite and online, underscored the success of the 1st Gastrointestinal Oncology Meeting as a significant milestone in advancing gastric cancer management in Indonesia.
