San Diego, California, May 3–6, 2025 — Prof. Roy Soetikno and Dr. Hasan Maulahela presented two scientific papers at the prestigious international forum, Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2025, held in San Diego, United States.
Both abstracts are the result of international collaboration with leading global endoscopy experts and have been published as part of a supplement in the renowned journal, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (GIE). The presented abstracts are:
- Global Consensus on Transforming Endoscopy Training through Expertise Science Principles: The Bali Endoscopy Simulation Training (BEST) Consensus
- Pioneering a Large Endoscopy Course Based on the Science of Expertise: The Bali Endoscopy Simulation Training (BEST) Hands-On Course
These two works represent major contributions to the advancement of modern endoscopy training, grounded in the science of expertise through simulation-based training.
The BEST Consensus: A Milestone in Global Endoscopy Training Transformation
The Bali Endoscopy Simulation Training (BEST) is a training approach rooted in the science of expertise, emphasizing structured, stepwise learning, realistic skills simulation, data-driven performance assessment, and focused feedback to build strong clinical competence.
The BEST Consensus is the outcome of a multidisciplinary international agreement involving numerous professional organizations worldwide. It aims to transform traditional endoscopy training into a more scientific, adaptive, and high-standard system. The consensus underscores the importance of integrating modern simulation technology, objective performance evaluation, and strengthening clinical skills through personalized learning strategies tailored to trainees’ needs.
Meanwhile, the second paper, titled BEST Hands-On Course, details the successful implementation of a large-scale endoscopy training program using the BEST approach, which was conducted in Bali. This course provided participants with direct hands-on experience through simulation-based practice, practical skills training, and structured feedback, all of which have been proven to enhance the quality of training and boost participants’ confidence in performing endoscopic procedures.
