
Phoenix, Arizona, October 2025 — Indonesian medical professionals have once again made the nation proud on the international stage. Two gastroenterologists and hepatologists, Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur and Dr. Husin Thamrin, have been honored with the Outstanding Research Award at the prestigious American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) 2025 meeting held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

Their research, titled “Helicobacter pylori Pathogenic Factors and Their Interactions with the Gastric Microbiome,” was recognized as the Best Scientific Abstract in the Infections and Microbiome Category. The study offers valuable insights into the pathogenic factors of Helicobacter pylori and its interaction with the gastric microbiome, paving the way for future innovations in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to gastric diseases.
Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur and Dr. Thamrin serve as Consultants in Gastroenterohepatology at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya, and academic staff at the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga. Both are actively engaged in research and clinical education, contributing significantly to the advancement of gastroenterology and hepatology in Indonesia.
